Iphone Locked with no AT&T SIM Card

Hi there, I'm helping a friend who bought a unlocked Iphone in Singapure. Is original version is 1.0.2, and it was working fine. He could place any SIM and use it with no problems, but he had made a mistake: He plugged to mac and itunes ask him if he wanted to update. After the update the iphone got locked and he cannot even place the pin to enter in the phone.
We saw some tutorials in youtube and we downloaded iNdependence and AppTap, but still didn't work. There's a missing link to make it work, but we coudn't figure it out what it is.

Can anybody know how we can make his iphone working???

you should find some software to hack it.
In China, there a lots hacked iphone which could use any SIM card but can not update iPhone
