Out of space to install iOS 8? Use iTunes instead!

[/url]

If you're getting an error message that says you can't install iOS 8 because you don't have enough free space on your device, you have two choices: Either you can delete stuff until you do have enough space, or you can use your Mac or PC and iTunes to take care of it.

So you're ready to pull the trigger on upgrading to iOS 8: You've checked Software Update, it's there, and you click Install. But you can't, because you don't have enough storage capacity available. What do you do?

Depending on which iPhone model you have, you might need up to 5.7 GB of storage space available. That's because the phone has to make enough room to download the installer, run it, then migrate existing settings and data necessary to get iOS 8 to work before it can finally flush out the old.

When you think about it from that perspective, you really are expecting a lot out of your phone when it comes time to do an Over the Air (OTA) installation.

To that end, doing it using iTunes can make a lot more sense. Fortunately our own Ally Kazmucha has written this handy guide to help you along.

How to install iOS 8 on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad using iTunes

You'll still need a little free space. But not nearly as much. Let your Mac or PC and iTunes do the heavy work for you.

If you do free up enough space and don't want to be bothered to connect your device to your computer, or if you don't have a computer to use, then OTA it is. First learn how to clean up your device:

Not enough storage space on your iPhone or iPad to install iOS 8?
