Phil Nickinson from our sibling site, Android Central, has just posted his complete
Nexus 6 review, and like the
Nexus 9 review Jerry Hildenbrand posted a couple days ago... I'm not sure what to think. For the last two years I've bought the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and both Nexus 7s automatically. Aside from the terrible cameras, they were pretty much no-brainers, especially since they were sold practically at cost. Now though?<!--break--></p>
<p>In a vacuum, the Nexus 6 is a pretty compelling device, particularly if you want something big. But the Nexus 6 doesn't live in a vacuum, particularly if you consider that what's supposed to make it special — the Nexus brand and what comes along with it — isn't quite as exclusive as it used to be.</p>
<p>I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get a
Nexus 9. I'm still on the fence about a
Nexus 6. (Funny that Apple and Google are both going from 5 to 6 on similar schedules, even while using the numbers to represent very different things.)</p> <p>It
is big, but so's the iPhone 6 Plus I've been using for the last six weeks. It's also running Google's new Android 5.0 Lollipop, with its Material Design makeover. Unlike previous Nexus devices, however, Google isn't underwriting the price tag, so you'll pay as much for the Nexus 6 as you would a any flagship phone.</p> <p>However, Google's also been updating all the iPhone apps to look like Material Design, and to take advantage of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes and iOS 8 features. That makes the iPhone as a good a Google phone as ever, which kind of blunts the appeal of a Google-only phone, at least for me.</p> <p>Which is pretty much the question Phil lands on: Do we need to find a reason to get the Nexus 6, or is Nexus alone still reason enough?
