Apple's streaming TV service once again rumored for 2016 launch

Despite rumors that Apple is to planning launch its next Apple TV refresh at its usual iPhone event in September, evidence is mounting that the company's rumored streaming TV service may not debut alongside it. A new report confirms previous murmurings that Apple is aiming for a 2016 launch of the TV service. From Bloomberg:

The company wanted to introduce this year a live TV service delivered via the Internet, but is now aiming for 2016, said people familiar with Apple's plans. Talks to license programming from TV networks such as those owned by CBS Corp. and 21st Century Fox Inc. are progressing slowly, some of the people said. Apple also doesn't have the computer network capacity in place to ensure a good viewing experience, said some of the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private.

This corroborates a previous report that pegged a targeted announcement for 2016 as well. Another cause for a later-than-expected launch is said to be pricing. The report cites that Apple is planning a $40 monthly subscription cost, which may prove to be a sticking point for networks.

The report notes that Apple is still planning to debut new Apple TV hardware at its next iPhone event, which is expected to take place on or around September 9.

Source: Bloomberg
