Amazon Mobile Gets iPad Refresh
If you like shopping Amazon.com on your iPad and have been frustrated by the iPhone-only app or find surfing the full website too much of a chore, you’ll be happy to know that the Amazon Mobile app is now iPad-friendly.Over the weekend, Amazon.com followed up their recent Kindle refresh with one for their free Amazon Mobile app. Like the Kindle app, Amazon Mobile is now a universal app, which means you’ll get the best experience possible, regardless of whether your device of choice is an iPad or an iPhone/iPod touch.“The Amazon Mobile app allows iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners to very quickly search, shop, compare prices, read reviews and make purchases on Amazon.com using a simple, yet elegant, interface,” the App Store description reads. “Amazon customers have full access to their existing cart, wish lists, payment and shipping options, order history, 1-Click settings and Prime membership benefits. All purchases made on Amazon Mobile are routed through Amazon’s secure servers just as they are on the web.”The new 1.2.4 iPad-optimized version of Amazon Mobile adds new features for all devices, including bestseller and recommendation lists, video previews and music track samples. Sadly, you still can’t purchase Amazon MP3 or Video on Demand content through the app itself, although you can at least add such content to your Wish List for purchase later. On the iPad, Amazon has taken advantage of the extra screen real estate in a unique way. For each item you view, you can see what appears to be three separate pages at the bottom: Details & Features, Customer Reviews and More to Explore. Tapping on any of them slides the page up the screen, allowing you to scroll through its content quickly. The Amazon Mobile home page also features stacked icons for popular categories such as Today’s Recommendations for You, Best Deals and Bestsellers in Books, allowing you to quickly get access to what’s important to you.Amazon Mobile is a free 1.8MB download and the new iPad-optimized version 1.2.4 is now available to download from the App Store.
