In Case You Missed It: Apr. 26 - May 1
MAYDAY! MAYDAY!Yes, that was the date on Friday, and it was also what everyone who had an iPad 3G was shouting from the rooftops if the UPS truck didn't pull up outside their front door to deliver the sweet mobile goodness into their hot little hands. Round two of iPad madness, though it's never quite the same, the second time around. For solace, let's look at what the Mac|Life kiddies got up to this week, just In Case You Missed It.Features:- Upgrade Guide - Build a Better Mac - Holy moley, it's not often we field an article that makes even us feel so incredibly nooby anymore – your mileage may vary – but these super-powered tips and tweaks culled from years of genius are a must read if you're planning on slapping a cape on your Mac. It's the easy way to get pro-power action and it's laid out for you here, 1, 2, 3.- 99 Awesome iPhone & iPad Apps You Must Download - We didn't start out small with our Mac|Life dreams. No, we pitched reviewing every single app in the App Store. With almost 200,00 apps out there and new ones showing up every day? We dreamed the impossible dream. At the very least, here's 99 apps that have made our lives fitter, happier, and more productive.How-Tos:- Uber-Handy Bookmarklets List! - If you're only going to bother reading one of these articles, by all means, read this one. Bookmarklets have made our life so much easier with their linky quickness that we couldn't not drag and drop your attention on this fine bit of tippery. If you're not reading this, you're just making your online life that much harder for yourself. Don't say we didn't tell you so later.- Apple Posts Step-By-Step Guide To iPad 3G Setup - Here we go. It's worse than a first grader's hair. It's that mess of cords you've got jammed in your messenger bag. The PowerCurl is a cable management system that – shock – works.- The Early Edition - Here's an app that clearly bears watching. RSS readers are great, but they lack sizzle. There's just something that feels like another task list to get through about them. Early Edition takes the decades-in-the-making pleasure of your daily newspaper's front page and the simplicity of the RSS and makes something really and truly a joy to use.News: It was the week of dueling CEOs, was it not? First up, Steve Jobs hammers Flash in an open letter that some people found a bit contradictory, a bit obscurantist...not that this was the kind of thing Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen could take lying down...so Adobe decided to make up for what will clearly be some lost revenue share by shipping CS5 two whole weeks early....speaking of deadlines, looks like LaLa has one, and that's May 31st when the cloud-based music service we've come to love evaporates in the sun...to sweeten that bitter deadline, at the very least, Steam is set to launch on May 12, so maybe getting your game on will make you feel better...meanwhile, got a friend? got an iPad? you and your friend got iPhones? Then give this idea a whirl: the iPad's the board, your iPhones are the control paddles. Sweeeeeet, no?And apparently, there was a bit of a buying spree going on lately, too, huh? HP buys Palm and the world is apparently ending for Apple. Hang on, we'll type the rest of this when we finish laughing............................... hahaha, okay, okay, whew. In real news of purchasing meaning something, Apple bought Siri in an attempt to take on Google, so at least that war is continuing to heat up...and as long as they were at it, Apple decided to pick up chip maker Intrinsity while they were out shopping...and we're betting this buying is all part of Apple working to keep on being seen as a better brand than Microsoft; that doesn't take much work, though, does it?...and it wasn't just the big boys buying stuff either. You were doing it too, at least if these Apple Store sales figures are to be believed....and you were buying digital music, and more of it; at least that's what we're hearing. Just tell us it wasn't all Lady Gaga.Well, speaking of buying, it seems that whole Gizmodo iPhone 4 kerfluffle might just come down to the actual purchasing of the "lost" handset. Meanwhile, it seems the police mounted a probe over the issue....then they raided Jason Chen's home for evidence....while the "finder" of the iPhone expressed his regrets over the whole business and his part in it...and if any of this confuses you, FastCompany has put together this handy dandy little choose your own adventure flow chart that puts it all into perspective...meanwhile, the phone model in question is probably going to go on sale in a month and a half anyway, so what's the biggie?
