$999 MacBook Gets Updated with Faster Processor, New Graphics
Whoomp, there it is: On the heels of yesterday’s leak about a new MacBook with a faster processor and updated graphics, Apple has quietly slid the new model into the product lineup.AppleInsider is reporting that the refreshed, entry-level 13-inch MacBook is now available and shipping “within 24 hours†at the same price of $999. The new model isn’t much of a surprise, after being leaked late last week by a Vietnamese website that managed to get their hands on the actual packaged product early, and even posted an unboxing video as evidence.Exactly as depicted in that leak, the new MacBook bumps the processor speed to a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and updates the graphics to a zippier Nvidia GeForce 320M. What the leak from Vietnam didn’t note was that the refreshed model now includes a built-in battery with up to 10 hours of use.Otherwise, the entry-level MacBook is mostly “same as it ever was.†The rest of the feature set is carried over from last year’s model, including the LED-backlit display, polycarbonate unibody enclosure, 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM, 250GB 5400 RMP hard drive, 1280x800 widescreen display and 8x, dual-layer SuperDrive. The new MacBook also adds the “new and improved†MagSafe connector introduced with the recent MacBook Pro updates, which streamlines the power adaptor cord by pointing it toward the rear of the unit rather than facing outward.
