Google’s AdMob Unveils iPhone OS SDK

(Image courtesy of TUAW)Not one to blink in the face of the oncoming freight train known as Apple’s iAd platform, the now Google-owned AdMob is stepping up its efforts to play nice with Cupertino’s hardware with the release of a new SDK for their mobile advertising service.TUAW is reporting that Google’s AdMob network is working to make things much easier for the advertisers they represent as well as developers who use the services with a new SDK squarely aimed at Apple’s iPad. However, the “unified environment” works with all iPhone OS devices, which means it will also play nice with the iPhone and iPod touch as well. The new SDK helps developers insert ad code in their iPhone OS apps to create text and image ads; in the near future, AdMob is promising HTML5 video support as well. “AdMob’s unified iPhone SDK makes it easier for developers to quickly integrate our code and start monetizing their applications,” claims the AdMob blog, which also features a closer peek at how the SDK will help developers.Currently the AdMob SDK includes two different type of mobile ads for the iPad: Text & Tile Ads, which take 35 character ads and reformats them into various sizes, and Image Ads, the more eye-catching choice for most app developers.According to AdMob metrics for the iPad, 38 percent of such devices currently visible to the ad network’s analytics tools were from outside of the United States in the month of May, which adds up to about 850,000 unique devices. TUAW notes that those numbers are quite impressive considering the iPad just went on sale internationally at the very end of May.
