Rumor: HTC in talks to Purchase Palm
Mobile device manufacturer Palm has had some turbulent times as of late, to say the least. To give you an idea of just how ugly things are looking these days, this past winter Palm shipped 960,000 phones and devices out to retailers but only managed to sell 408,000 of them. Ouch. With things looking as bleak as they are, Palm chairman Jon Rubinstein has understandably mentioned that the company would be open to a buyout, provided the offer was reasonable. Enter Taiwanese smartphone juggernaut HTC - yes, that HTC. Electronista reports that rumor has it that HTC may be in the market to purchase the beleaguered manufacturer. The acquisition of Palm would be an excellent move on HTC's part, as Palm's touch interface and technology patents could come in handy should Apple's current lawsuits against them gather more steam.
