Apple reportedly in early talks to bring iPhone to Iran

The company is supposedly already in preliminary talks with possible distributors in the country, with the primary obstacle being the economic sanctions imposed on Iran due to its nuclear program. Apple is said to be discussing the possibility of selling the iPhone through local retailers, instead of Apple selling in the country directly, according to the Wall Street Journal:

Senior Apple executives have met potential Iranian distributors at Apple's regional headquarters at London's Hanover Street, according to four people familiar with the matter. In the conversations, the Cupertino, Calif., company explored the possibility of having Iranian partners sell Apple products at so-called premium resellers, three of the people said. Instead of company-operated Apple stores, such outlets would be midsize franchisees that sell Apple products only, —a model the company has used in Europe and Asia, the people said.
